This one came to me during the war in Boznia-Herzegovina, but it really is a statement about war itself.

TEARS FOR RACHEL

How little, it seems, we have learned.
So few years since the Holocaust
and still we tear the flesh of family
to bone
still we rape our daughters
crush the skulls of our grandsons
still
faces twisted in hatred
When?
When shall we awaken ourselves
from this hoary nightmare?
or shall we die in our sleep?
screaming
