The following areas of interest regarding Reiki are included in my website:
My
purpose for having a Reiki Website is to educate and inform people about Reiki,
a holistic and complementary healing method using energy. I not only wish to
reach people who have little or no knowledge of Reiki energy work, but to also
be a source of support and information for Reiki Practitioners.
It is a wonderful benefit of computer technology that we can communicate with people in remote and isolated parts of the world. I have traveled to regions far from my home to teach Reiki and hope that through this website I may reach others who want to become Reiki Practitioners.

About Pat Cougar, R.N., Reiki Master
The path that led to my becoming a Reiki Master, and teaching classes in Reiki, started when I first became interested in working with bioenergy in the 1980's through Tai Chi and Chi Kung. I feel fortunate to have studied Chi Kung with a Chinese Master, Lum Ding, who had recently moved from Hong Kong to San Francisco. Chi Kung is an internal form of Tai Chi, which increases the body's energy through the breath. Through this daily practice, I began to heal on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.
In November 1990, while volunteering for Sonoma County Hospice, I attended a staff training on energy healing and met my future Reiki Master, Laisha Beeson. I was so excited and impressed that I could use my hands to channel energy and help others heal, that I proceeded to take the first and second Reiki levels with Laisha. I had just experienced a back injury and a divorce. I felt much healing from the Reiki taking place within me.
I decided in 1991 to pursue Reiki as a vocation and studied the Master level for one year with Laisha. As part of my year's internship, I went with my Reiki Master to Ukraine to teach first and second degree Reiki. The Soviet Union had recently dissolved, Ukraine had become an independent state and the people wanted to learn as much as possible about what was currently happening in the rest of the world. Due to the recent nuclear disaster at Chernobyl, they were especially eager to learn about methods of healing that anyone could employ. This journey was so profound for me that I returned to Ukraine the following year to teach Reiki again. I later moved to Chico, California, to be with the man I love (David), who became my husband, and have been practicing as a Reiki Master ever since.
When I arrived in the (then) small town of Chico, very few people knew about Reiki and bioenergy. Much of my practice was education. As towns have grown rapidly, especially in California, and people are using many forms of complimentary and holistic medicine, my practice has grown. Reiki seems to appeal to many people because of its simplicity and effectiveness. I feel much joy and satisfaction in being able to share Reiki with others.
In the early 1960's I became a registered nurse and felt discouraged about the state of the medical profession at that time. I spent many years searching for healing that addressed the mind, body and soul. I have spent over thirty years as a psychiatric nurse doing counseling because I felt that the mind is crucial to healing. I am happy to inform the reader that the field of nursing has taken a big leap forward with the formation of the American Holistic Nurses Association, of which I am a member. Anyone can join and receive educational material throughout the year.
Presently, I teach first and second degree levels of Reiki, a one-year, master level program, and give one-hour Reiki sessions at my offices in Chico and Magalia. I am open to traveling to other communities to teach Reiki.
